Bio

Yale end Tom Shevlin is regarded as one of the two greatest ends in college football's formative years (Frank Hinkey is the other). He had great strength and also threw the hammer and shot for the Yale track and field team. His strength proved the perfect complement to his speed, intelligence and competitive spirit. During Shevlin's four varsity campaigns, Yale rolled to an amazing 42-2-1 record. He captained the 1905 Blue and White squad that finished with a perfect ten game record in a season when Yale out-scored the competition, 227-4. Princeton was the only club to score on Yale that year, as the Bulldogs finished as co-National Champions with Chicago. Shevlin was a 5-10, 195-pound end who could over power any opposing player. All America selector Walter Camp named Shevlin to the consensus firs- team in three of the end's four campaigns. In his only season where he was not a first-team choice (1903) he was named to the second-team.
