Bio

Honors piled up for Joe Palumbo while playing middle guard for Virginia. He made first-team All-America. The Touchdown Club of Washington D.C. gave him the Outstanding Defensive Lineman Award. He was named Athlete of the Year in the State of Virginia. He was Virginia's captain and recorded an 8-1 season. During his three varsity years, Virginia was 23-5 and had seven shutouts. His jersey No. 48, was retired by Virginia. Palumbo served in the U.S. Army in 1952. He settled in Charlottesville, VA., working insurance and was tireless as a fund raiser for his alma mater.
