Jim Sochor

Bio

Jim Sochor's first impact on college football was in 1957-59. He quarterbacked San Francisco State to three league championships. He served as assistant coach at San Francisco State from 1960-65 and California-Davis from 1967-69. He moved up to head coach at Davis in 1970. His first team had a 6-4 record. Then came a streak of 18 consecutive conference championships, 1971-88. UC-Davis was in the Far Western Conference. In 1982, this became known as the Northern California Athletic Conference. Sochor's record from 1970-88 was 156-41-5, a winning percentage of .785. His 1982 team was runner-up to Southwest Texas State in the NCAA Division II playoffs. In conference games his record was 92-5. He had winning streaks of 41 and 38 in conference games. In 1983, he was national coach of the year in NCAA Division II. This followed two seasons in which he went 12-1 and 11-1. In 1984 and 1988 he served as assistant coach in the East-West Shrine Game. He was UC-Davis director of athletics 1988-91. In 1992, he returned to UC-Davis and served five years as golf coach. In 1996, he was in Europe as assistant coach (offensive coordinator) of the Scottish Claymores, who won the championship of the World League of American Football.
