Pierce Holt excelled on the football field and in the classroom for Angelo State. At the age of 22 he walked on to the team after holding a number of jobs after high school, including acting as a shopping mall Santa. He became an immediate starter as a freshman as the Rams captured the Lone Star Conference title. The next season he made the first of three consecutive all-conference teams. His honors continued as a junior and senior as he added first-team All-America to his list of accomplishments. Holt was also the conference defensive lineman of the year in each of his two All-America seasons. He played eight years with San Francisco and Atlanta in the National Football League, was on two Super Bowl winners, and became a rancher in Christoval, Texas and then returned to Angelo as an assistant coach. Pierce achieved greatness despite he fact that he only had ten percent vision in his left eye.
