BIO

A two-time consensus All-America, Calvin Jones was named to 22 different All-America teams during his playing days under Forest Evashevski at the University of Iowa. His outstanding performance on the gridiron earned him the coveted Outland Trophy as a senior in 1955. He participated in the East-West Shrine Game and the Hula Bowl. He was said to be one of the strongest middle guards ever to play in the Big Ten by Hall of Famer Paul Giel of Minnesota. He captained the 1955 Hawkeye squad and played pro ball in Canada for one year before he perished in a plane crash in Canada in December of 1956. Jones lived only a short time, but he left one of the longest shadows on Iowa football for years to come. As the individual that all Hawkeye linemen are compared to, Jones will live forever as one of Iowa's greatest players of all time.
