Efficiency and strong defense top rivalry performances

December, 01 2014

We’re heading into championship week, and last weekend’s rivalry matchups have prepared the nation’s best players for what’s to come. Here are the nominees for Hall of Fame Performer of the Week.

USC QB Cody Kessler helped the Trojans bury rival Notre Dame with one of the most efficient performances of the season. He finished 32-of-40 for 372 yards with six touchdowns as USC beat the Irish.

Boise State RB Jay Ajayi put the Broncos in the conversation for a top-tier bowl destination with a 229-yard performance and five touchdowns win over Utah State. Entering the game, the Aggies were ranked 10th nationally against the run, but that was before they ran up against Ajayi.

Clemson DE Vic Beasley helped the Tigers snap a five-year losing streak to cross-state rival South Carolina, finishing with five tackles, two sacks, a QB hurry and a forced fumble.

Georgia Tech S Isaiah Johnson was part of a streakbuster as well, registering 10 tackles as the Yellow Jackets knocked off rival Georgia in overtime. Johnson was part of two pivotal turnovers as well, forcing a fumble at the one-yard line and then recovering another fumble at the one-yard line.
