Everybody knew him as the famous Cal Hubbard. His full name was Robert Calvin Hubbard, and he was elected to the College Football Hall of Fame in 1962, the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1963, and the Baseball Hall of Fame (as an umpire) in 1976. Hubbard played end and tackle for Centenary 1922-24 and added one year at Geneva 1926. He made the switch with his college coach, Bo McMillin. Before enrolling at Centenary, he had hoped to attend West Point, but he was ineligible due to flat feet. He was a pro tackle, standing 6-4 in height and weighing 250 pounds, for the New York Giants, Green Bay and Pittsburgh 1927-36. He was a major league umpire 1936-52 and supervisor of umpires for the American League 1953-70.
