Bio

Washington quarterback Bob Schloredt first made headlines as a sophomore in 1958, with a 71-yard punt against Oregon State. But his junior year was his best. He played quarterback on offense and made first-team All-America. He also was a defensive back and intercepted seven passes. Washington beat Wisconsin 44-8 in the Rose Bowl, and he was co-winner of the Most Valuable Player Award. Injuries kept him out of action more than half his senior season, 1960, but he was in the Rose Bowl again, leading his team to a 17-7 victory over Minnesota. He was named the Rose Bowl MVP. Schloredt did all this with one good eye. A childhood accident, at age five, left him with only five percent vision in his left eye. Schloredt played two years in the Canadian Football League, was assistant coach 11 years at the University of Washington, and coached briefly in Hawaii.
