Bio

Jimmy Leech was on the team at Virginia Military Institute in 1917. He left to join the Marine Corps and was a lieutenant in World War I. Leech returned for the 1919 and 1920 seasons. In 1920, he made 26 touchdowns and drop-kicked extra points and field goals. His 210 points led the nation. VMI won all nine games, whipping major foes such as Pennsylvania 27-7, Virginia 22-6, North Carolina 23-0, and North Carolina State 14-0. He became an All-America in 1920. VMI out-scored its nine opponents 431-20. Leech, 5-8 and 155-pounds, captained the football and basketball teams, played on the baseball teams, and also excelled in swimming and tennis. He was born April 13, 1897, in Collierville, Virginia; he died August 16, 1951, in Hamden, Connecticut, where he headed an insurance agency.
