Bio

George Brooke played seven years of college football. He was a Swarthmore fullback in 1889-92 and played the same position at Pennsylvania in 1893-95. A two-time first-team All-America selection, Brooke was described by Caspar Whitney as, "A very hard man to stop. He strikes the line with almost irresistible force." As a sophomore, he was a second-team selection. At Swarthmore he played on teams that compiled a 21-14 won-lost mark. When he moved on to Pennsylvania he was a member of three teams that won 38 of 41 games. Besides being a powerful runner, Brooke also did the kicking at Penn. He developed in his punting a long, low spiral that was hard for the receiver to return and easy for the ends to cover.
