Bio

Bill Fischer earned a letter as a reserve lineman in his freshman year at Notre Dame, 1945. He was the starting left guard the next three seasons, was a consensus All-America in 1947 and 1948, and won the Outland Trophy in 1948 as the nation's best interior lineman. In his final three years, Notre Dame had a 26-0-2 record. He was captain of the 1948 Notre Dame team, captain of the East team in the East-West Shrine Game, and named Most Valuable Player for his team in the 1949 College All-Star Game. He played professionally with the Chicago Cardinals 1949-53 and was assistant coach at Notre Dame 1954-58.
